Morning Rituals to Cultivate Self-Love

Starting the day with a morning ritual is a great way to practice self-love. Instead of creating momentum from a place of feeling behind or anxious about your “to do list”, you can create rituals to help you feel more rooted, clear and at peace.

In this article I will share 10 of my favorite morning rituals that will support you to cultivate self-love and start your day feeling absolutely great.

1)  Self Massage

Offering yourself massage is a beautiful way to love and nurture your body while slowly emerging from dream-time. Gently offer loving touch over your belly, breasts, arms, head etc. Notice which parts of your body really long to be held. Place your hand onto these areas and even say out loud to your body “I love you, thank you so much for all that you do”. 

 

2)  Offer gratitude in the morning sun

Taking time to step into the morning sun and offer gratitude is a wonderful way to connect to the magic and beauty of the natural world. This ritual is great for taking in vitamin d, decreasing stress hormones in the body, and deepening your sense of connection with life itself. When we connect to a feeling of gratitude, especially in nature, we automatically shift our energy into a more peaceful and love filled frequency that supports longevity and good health. Explore tuning into the elements, touching the earth, breathing in the sunlight and speaking out loud whatever it is you are grateful for in that very moment.

 

3)  Enjoy a Soothing Warm Drink

It can be such an enjoyable experience to mix up a special soothing warm cuppa’ tea, cacao, or whatever your favorite drink is in the morning. Set the intention that this is indeed a self-love ritual, taking a moment to muster up a sense of love, gratitude and enjoyment in your heart as you make your drink. As you do, you are infusing your concoction with all your heart’s special yummy love energy. Create some space to sip and enjoy the warm coziness at your leisure. 

 

4)  Stretch

Even 2 minutes of stretching in the morning can offer your body a great sense of relief and aliveness as you rise from the sleep realms. Take some space to stretch up to the sky and down to the earth, breathing with your movement and allowing your body to open, release, and come alive. Downward dog, hamstring stretches, and lunges are some of my favorite stretches for getting my body ready for the day.

 

5)  Move to your favorite music

Create a space to express yourself through movement and dance. This is a great way to feel and move your emotions, explore your sensuality and experience a greater sense of renewal, self-love and aliveness. Let your body move as it needs to through flowing spirals, chaotic shakes, staccato punches or whatever feels most intuitive and natural for you. Offer yourself the freedom and the permission to move as weirdly or wildly as you need to to feel fully expressed.

 

6)  Let the Creativity Flow

One of my favorite morning rituals is designating time for creativity to flow. For me, this looks like singing the songs of the moment, practicing using my voice by sounding out loud whatever melody’s want to arise. For others, it might look like painting, drawing, writing, poetry, sculpting with clay etc. What is your favorite way to creatively express yourself? If you are unsure what you might enjoy, I invite you to give any of the above a try with a childlike heart. It doesn’t matter what you sound like, or what the end result is. What matters most is how you feel; that you’re enjoying yourself as you play and express.

 

7)  Journal

Journaling is a soothing way to clear the mind and body.  You can log your dreams, express your emotions, access your inner guidance, and receive clarity all through the element of writing. If you feel like exploring journaling but are unsure where to start, give this exercise a try: Take a minute to place a hand over your heart and breathe into your belly. When you’re ready, you can set a timer for 3-7 min and begin to write in your journal without stopping.  If you end up writing “I don’t know what to write right now”, it’s ok! Just keep writing. This is a great exercise for seeing what’s going on in the inner realms, expressing yourself freely, and finding clarity on any given circumstance that might be consciously or subconsciously troubling you.  

 

8)  Oracle Card Decks

Using oracle card decks is a lovely way to connect to your intuition, and receive a blessing for the day. Some of my favorite card decks are “Live Your Light” by Rebecca Campbell and “Medicine Cards” by Jamie Sam’s. 

 

9)  Visualization Meditation

Create a sacred space to connect to yourself by taking some deep slow breathes into your body.  Perhaps lighting a candle or some incense to set the tone. Visualize that you are surrounded by a sphere of light in all directions. This sphere of light represents your sacred energy field that protects you, nurtures you and is filled with love. Tune into this field of energy any time throughout the day.

 

10) Super Food Smoothie

Making a yummy super food smoothie filled with nutrients is a great ritual to help you start the day feelin’ great in your body. Here’s an example of a yummy recipe: 1 cup of frozen Blueberries, 2 tablespoons of Plant Protein Powder, a large handful of baby kale and spinach, ½ an Avocado, 1 teaspoon Maca powder, 1 teaspoon Cacao powder, ½ an Apple, cinnamon, and Coconut Milk.
